Triceratops means three horned face

triceratops is one of the most commonly known herbivores. It lived in the  Late Cretaceous Period, from 95-65 mya. It had a large bony frill and three horns on its large four-legged body, and it had other things that make it slightly resemble a rhino. Most of the fossils have been found in North America, in the same regions as the renowned predator T-Rex. Triceratops could grow up to 7 -10 meters, or 26-33 feet in length, and weigh about 6 to 12 tons.It made it the largest horned dinosaurs(Ceratopsians). This dinosaur had a head built like an enormous shield, with a thick, bony frill surrounding its neck. The head measured about 6-7 feet long. Above each eye was a long, pointed horn, about 28 inches in length, with a shorter horn on the nose. Triceratops had a hard beak like a parrot and many cheek teeth.

Triceratops

Prey

It might have been eaten by T-Rex, but we are not sure if this is true, as it was more than capable of defending itself with its horns. It is certain, though, that its carcasses were eaten by T-Rex. It mainly ate plants and shrubs, and the 1m long horns were used to defend against likely predators.

As Triceratops was a herbivore, it would not have needed a large brain, like Troodon, to hunt. Therefore it would not attack any predators, it would probably just take a swipe at them with its horns if it was attacked. Its lack of intelligence also meant that it was pretty easy to stalk, but the kill was always made rather difficult by the presence of the vicious metre-long horns.

Fame

Triceratops is probally one of the most known dinosaurs, appearing on many forms of media, including the blockbuster film Jurassic Park. It is one of the most iconic dinosaurs, and has achived a lot of fame over the years.

Apart from being in films, Triceratops has also appeared in the BBC documentary Walking with Dinosaurs, where it was eaten by T-Rex, and the childrens TV series Dinosaur King on CITV. It is a popular favorite with many children throughout the world, and is often seen as one of the "good guys", as opposed to a carnivore being one of the "baddies".

Triceratops is also a animal in the PC games Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, Zoo Tycoon, and Zoo Tycoon 2. In Zoo Tycoon, however, it is only unlockable via an official cheat. at the one of the cheats
