| − | You may have heard of the controversial "Dinosaurian". It is a thought experiment that extrapolated the evolution of Stenonochisaurus, a Canadian raptor, into the present. The result was a 21st century dino that was basically humanoid. No tail, big head, plain upright, a bending thumb-you know, stuff that no dinosaur should posess. First of all, just because humans evolved that way doesn't mean it's a standard way to evolve intelligence. Take octopi, for example. They're genius', and are actually expected to evolve intelligence in a few thousand years! But would sentient octopi be humanoid? Somehow, I doubt it highly. Same with dinosaurs. They could become intelligent, but they would still posess a tail and would not go upright. Second, raptors were already genius' by the end of the Cretaceous. So why wait 65 million years for sentience? I'd give a date of 63-61 mya. for a dinosauroid. So for a 2011 sentient dinosaur man, we need a dinosaur that was becoming pretty smart by the Late Cretaceous but needed a few million more years to become intelligent. I chose the king of the Cretaceous, outsized only by Giganotosaurus and the Egyptian megalord Spinosaurus; I give you, the T-rex, tyrant lizard king of the Late Cretaceous!! |

| − | The tyranosaurs were actually pretty smart. They had the biggest brains of the dinosaurs, though the raptors had more powerful brains. However, one crucial feature kept tyranosaurs just out of reach of sentience-their puny little arms. Over 65 million years, tyranosaurs lost their arms altogether. But if one tyranosaur was born unusually with large arms-WHAMMO!! Sentience would be almost overnight with the one barrier gone.
