Eusthenopteron is a genus of freshwater fish that lived in the world's swamps during the middle Devonian to late Devonian period, 385 million years ago. Scientists discovered that this unique vertebrate is the ancestor of the first tetrapods that walked on land and swam in the water.

  • Eusthenopteron first appeared in Disney's Fantasia in The Rite of Spring.
  • Eusthenopteron was featured in the documentary Animal Armageddon, where it was shown how to live until the Devonian Extinction occurred.
  • It was also in the hit Japanese movie Ponyo alongside several other ancient Devonian fish.
  • Eusthenopteron also appeared in the 8th movie of The Land Before Time in the beginning in the ocean.
