Dinosaurs are a group of extinct reptiles that were the dominant animals for over 160 million years. They lived during the Middle Triassic to the Late Cretaceous, at which point most disappeared, 66 million years ago. It's now widely accepted that every bird is a modern theropod dinosaurs, which makes them the most diverse group of vertebrates even for bony fish.
